Prometheus: the Titan
Prometheus was a titan and a brother of Atlas (the titan who holds up the sky) and Epimetheus.
His name, Prometheus, means "fore-thought", which fits into the myth that he appears in.
In the beginning, he was charged with creating mankind, while his brother, Epimetheus, was told to make all the animals on the Earth. Epimetheus, whose name means "after-thought", made all the animals and used up all the gifts (feathers, flight, fur, speed, etc.) for all the creatures on Earth before Prometheus was finished and able to give any to mankind. To enable humans to survive, he stole fire from Olympus to give to them. In punishment, Zeus chained him to a rock where his liver is eaten by a vulture and regrows by the next day.
